Okay, fess us…
Are you STILL trying to lose weight by dieting?
Okay, fess up… are you STILL trying to lose weight by dieting?
Seriously?
After ALL the years of SELF HATRED, the STRUGGLE, the SELF LOATHING, (need I go on?)… Are you STILL looking for that ONE MAGIC DIET that will shed 25 kilos off your butt overnight?
Because you know it doesn’t exist, right?
That magic bullet you’ve been searching for? DOES. NOT. EXIST.
I know, I know, I’m crushing your life-long fantasy (sorry), but someone has to tell you the truth and it sure as heck won’t be the men in suits who are churning out a new fancy pants fad diet every week.
Can’t you just picture it now….
An office. Full of big, sweaty dudes drinking their meal replacements shakes and eating deep fried Snickers bars. “Let’s cover this new diet in rainbows and sparkles and those fools will never notice that it’s ALL JUST A CON”
And we didn’t. Until now.
It took me a long time to say this, but I’m proud that I’ve ditched the diet.
Yup.
I stopped doing everything “they” told me I “should” do and you know what happened?
I lost weight.
And I’m freakin proud of it.
BUT ALLOW ME TO EXPLAIN…
Am I saying that I’m proud because I lost the weight?
NOPE.
NOT AT ALL.
Okay, I know you want to smack me around the head with a bag of peanut M&M’s right now, but before you walk away in disgust, let me tell you WHY…
I’m NOT proud that I lost the weight.
That was never what it was about.
Anyone can lose weight. Just pick one of those diets that the fat, cigar smoking, Snicker bar eating dudes create and you’ll lose weight.
A circus monkey can starve itself and lose weight, so no. I’m not proud that I lost the weight.
What I AM proud of is this…
What I AM proud of is that despite the fact that the journey took a little longer than if I had tried another fad diet, I DID IT ANYWAY.
Despite the fact that it WASN’T all sunshine and lollipops, I DID IT ANYWAY.
Despite the fact that I COULD HAVE joined another “lose 7 kilos in 7 days” program, I DID IT ANYWAY.
For once, I decided to I put MYSELF before everybody else and I COMMITTED TO STICKING WITH IT.
Because, I’ll be the first to tell you… when every memory you’ve ever had is you:
STRUGGLING with food
FIGHTING your weight
WISHING it could be different
It’s hard to know what’s on the other side…
But girls, does it really matter?
Because you just KNOW it has to be better than where you are now.
Better than starting a new diet every Monday morning and then giving serious consideration to devouring the worlds supply of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups by Monday afternoon.
Better than cropping your arms/stomach/butt out of all your social media pictures because you’re ashamed of your size.
Better than avoiding social situations because you’ve gained ANOTHER five kilos after you SWORE that THIS TIME you had reached your limit.
But let me tell you, you don’t need motivation.
What you need is determination with a fresh serve of “selfish” to take that leap of faith.
Sometimes you have to be a little selfish NOW so you can give more of yourself in the FUTURE.
So yeah, call me selfish.
I was selfish enough to take my hard earned cash away from the fat, cigar smoking dudes and give it back to ME.
I was selfish enough to invest in MYSELF for a change, instead of putting everyone else first.
I was selfish enough to stop using food as my entertainment, security, love and find out what really made ME happy.
Yup. Plain old selfish.
But selfish saved my life.
If you think I’ve gone completely nuts, then you should shut your computer screen now. What I’m about to say next isn’t for you.
But…
If you’re nodding your head like a crazed lunatic because you’re actually RELIEVED that someone has said all the things you’ve been thinking for years, then read on…
It’s NOT selfish to put yourself first.
In fact, when you’ve been dieting as long as I had, I’m going to go out on a limb and say it’s ESSENTIAL.
I’m proud to say I made space in my own life for MYSELF and I want you to be able to do the same.
