Why You Keep Overeating At Night

This week we're talking about the sneaky little lies that are keeping you overweight and how you can recognise and reverse them

Let's talk about reason #103 why you keep overeating at night... "banking calories".

"I haven't eaten all day so I DESERVE this"
"I haven't eaten all day so I can AFFORD to eat this"
"I haven't eaten all day so I can SPLURGE now"

*insert whiney voice here*

Straight up, banking calories is not a thing. You can't "save now, spend later" when it comes to calories and what you eat. Your body needs sufficient calories all throughout the day so it can function efficiently. And if you don't give it those calories when it needs them, it will force you to eat tsunami-sized portions of food to compensate.

Straight up, banking calories is not a thing. You can't "save now, spend later" when it comes to calories and what you eat.

Here's what you should do instead:

You might be busy with kids, meetings etc, but it only takes a moment to check-in and see how you're feeling.

This is not rocket science. What do you feel like eating at that moment? Honour your body's needs. It's here to support you for the long haul. Respect that.

You don't have to bank calories or wait for a special occasion to eat the doughnut. If you want it, eat it and enjoy it. The doughnut does not mean you have "ruined" your eating or "failed". It's just a doughnut. Enjoy it for what it is and move the fu*k on.

There is never going to be a "right time" to deal with your emotional eating. There is just time and you choose what to do with it.
It won't be easier tomorrow.
It won't be easier next week.
And it definitely won't be easier next month.
I want to be clear, you can't (and won't) do it before you're ready. That's okay, too. But you will need to push yourself *a little*.
Want a life and body that feels easy and not stressy? You gotta step up, girl.

It's not going to feel good, but that's what growing and becoming an even more amazing wife/mother/partner/woman looks like!
STEP 1 - What are you willing to DO to make your relationship with food (or anything) the way you want it?
STEP 2 - What are you willing to STOP doing to have things the way you want it?
STEP 3 - How can you do what's necessary to get the job done AND enjoy the process? (and p.s. there are a million options here)
Remember, the feelings you get from eating when you're not hungry are only a temporary escape. Changing your relationship with yourself lasts a lifetime.

Have the rules of weight loss got you in a tail spin?

Here’s how to lose weight by breaking ALL the rules...

What rules am I talking about?

Well, it might be a little risqué, but I’m talking about the rules and the chains that we put around ourselves when it comes to what we can and can’t eat.

“This is going to make me skinny; this is going to make me fat! I can eat the lettuce leaves but I can’t eat that chocolate cake.”

What if you really want the chocolate cake? What if you deny yourself the chocolate cake, you force yourselves to eat the lettuce leaves and then three days later you go on an epic chocolate cake binge that lasts for 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 6 months?

When you really want to eat the cake, it’s okay.

I promise you won’t turn into a pumpkin pie at midnight.

Not only will you see why dieting is such an old school way to lose weight, but you’ll also find out why it’s keeping you overweight (yes, shocking but true)

The Highlights

Diets lead to binges and binges lead to diets.

The more we restrict and deprive ourselves, the more we set ourselves up for a one way ticket to Bingeville.  It might seem rather jolly at the time but the after party is such a drag… “I hate myself so much,” “Why did I do that again,” “I can’t believe I did that again.” And then, in a state of white hot panic, we promise ourselves we will “do better tomorrow” when we “start again” (but of course you’ve never uttered those words).

Everybody needs to break the rules sometimes

The more rules and restrictions we place on ourselves the more we think, “I can’t eat this but I can eat that,” the more you are going to continue eating the things that you want to eat but you don’t want to eat. The Snickers bars, the M&M’s, the cheese cake, the chilli fries, the 14 pizzas. We go into a state of panic because we feel that we’ve been without these foods for so long that  we deserve to eat A LOT of them.

Bust outta the cage

If you set yourself free all the time then you won’t freak out over every chocolate muffin that crosses your path. When we stop pretending that we’re someone we’re not, the game changes. Give your body the love and the space to enjoy the foods that you enjoy, in the amounts that feel good to you and in your body. Don’t feel that you need to stuff them down when you have them available just because, “If I don’t eat it now I’ll never get it again,” “It’s my one cheat day a week or my free day a week so I need to eat it now, otherwise I’ll never see it again for another whole 7 days!” Break up with those thoughts. They will drown you in cake crumbs every time.

It’s time for you to live a life of freedom and joy; not feeling restricted and deprived and waiting for that next big binge to strike.

So share your comments below!

What’s the number one “dieting rule” you can let go of today AND what kind habit can you replace it with?

Remember, the only person who has the power to change your life is you.

You’ve got what it takes.

Big Love!
