Why You Keep Overeating At Night

This week we're talking about the sneaky little lies that are keeping you overweight and how you can recognise and reverse them

Let's talk about reason #103 why you keep overeating at night... "banking calories".

"I haven't eaten all day so I DESERVE this"
"I haven't eaten all day so I can AFFORD to eat this"
"I haven't eaten all day so I can SPLURGE now"

*insert whiney voice here*

Straight up, banking calories is not a thing. You can't "save now, spend later" when it comes to calories and what you eat. Your body needs sufficient calories all throughout the day so it can function efficiently. And if you don't give it those calories when it needs them, it will force you to eat tsunami-sized portions of food to compensate.

Straight up, banking calories is not a thing. You can't "save now, spend later" when it comes to calories and what you eat.

Here's what you should do instead:

1. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY.
You might be busy with kids, meetings etc, but it only takes a moment to check-in and see how you're feeling.

2. IF YOU'RE HUNGRY, E.A.T!!
This is not rocket science. What do you feel like eating at that moment? Honour your body's needs. It's here to support you for the long haul. Respect that.

3. YOU DESERVE TO EAT WHAT YOU ENJOY.
You don't have to bank calories or wait for a special occasion to eat the doughnut. If you want it, eat it and enjoy it. The doughnut does not mean you have "ruined" your eating or "failed". It's just a doughnut. Enjoy it for what it is and move the fu*k on.

There is never going to be a "right time" to deal with your emotional eating. There is just time and you choose what to do with it.

It won't be easier tomorrow.
It won't be easier next week.
And it definitely won't be easier next month.

I want to be clear, you can't (and won't) do it before you're ready. That's okay, too. But you will need to push yourself *a little*.

Want a life and body that feels easy and not stressy? You gotta step up, girl.

It's not going to feel good, but that's what growing and becoming an even more amazing wife/mother/partner/woman looks like!

STEP 1 - What are you willing to DO to make your relationship with food (or anything) the way you want it?

STEP 2 - What are you willing to STOP doing to have things the way you want it?

STEP 3 - How can you do what's necessary to get the job done AND enjoy the process? (and p.s. there are a million options here)

Remember, the feelings you get from eating when you're not hungry are only a temporary escape. Changing your relationship with yourself lasts a lifetime.

HOW I OVERCAME MY BINGE EATING NIGHTMARE

How I overcame my binge eating nightmare…

____________________________

Just in case we’ve never met before, allow me to introduce myself…

Hi! I’m the girl who struggled to lose weight for 20 years and was never satisfied with her body.

It didn’t matter how much weight I lost, I never really believed I deserved to be “that girl”. You know the one? She’s slim. Happy. Eat’s what ever she wants and never gains a kilo? Yeah… THAT one.

So, because I knew I couldn’t be “HER” and because I couldn’t stand being ME, I would eat. And eat. And EAT.

No prizes for guessing how that story ends (insert an enormous booty and a sad face emoji here)

I took a long hard look at my dieting history and believe me, it was not pretty.

Years and years of bingeing. Overeating. Under eating. Over exercising. Cleanses. Detoxes. Fasts. Portion control. Fear. Self loathing and disappointment.

The whole thing was one giant mess.

It took me a while to come to terms with it, but eventually I settled on THREE NON NEGOTIABLE’S

Thing One

If being “skinny” meant I had to count calories and stress over every morsel of food that passed my lips for all of eternity, then “skinny” was not for me.

Thing Two

I wanted to be comfortable and feel good in my body, no matter what size that body decided to be.

Thing Three

I wanted to love myself through the whole process. Binges, cellulite and all.

Change can be hard. Essentially we are creatures of habit. Break our routines and we get a little antsy in the pantsies. So (unlike all other attempts I had made to “change” myself before) I took it sloooowley. I was kind to myself (Yes, kind! What a novel concept!) and I did NOT berate myself or hate myself when I stumbled along the way (which you KNOW I did lol!)

You are the only one who can decide your direction.

Belief in yourself is not a FEELING. It’s a CHOICE.

Don’t ever settle for less than you deserve. Don’t let your desires and actions contradict each other. We cannot become what we want to be by remaining what we are. It’s time to move on.

Sometimes you just have to let go and see what happens. All you need to do is let go and TRUST.

You have a few superpowers up your proverbial sleeve, the first of them being that you can DECIDE to love and accept yourself and your body right now on the way to where you’re going.  And honestly, as long as you’re feeling good about your choices, who CARES what the number in the bathroom scale says?!!

Do what’s best for YOU.

Eat what works for YOUR body.

NOT a diet that worked for someone else (unless you’re recently undergone a lobotomy and have no brain. In that case, definitely do what someone else tells you to do)

If it doesn’t feel right, if you have to force yourself to do it, then leave it alone. That’s your body’s way pulling you back to reality.

We need love. We need acceptance. We need nourishment. And not necessarily in that order.

If you’re truly-rooly ready for change, if you’re finally done with hating the body you see in the mirror every morning, if you really want to be more than a lobotomised robot that eats diet food all day, then you neeeed to know about Ditch the Diet Bootcamp.

If you’ve ever found yourself thinking “I just can’t control myself around chocolate” then this is for YOU
