Why You Keep Overeating At Night

This week we're talking about the sneaky little lies that are keeping you overweight and how you can recognise and reverse them

Let's talk about reason #103 why you keep overeating at night... "banking calories".

"I haven't eaten all day so I DESERVE this"
"I haven't eaten all day so I can AFFORD to eat this"
"I haven't eaten all day so I can SPLURGE now"

*insert whiney voice here*

Straight up, banking calories is not a thing. You can't "save now, spend later" when it comes to calories and what you eat. Your body needs sufficient calories all throughout the day so it can function efficiently. And if you don't give it those calories when it needs them, it will force you to eat tsunami-sized portions of food to compensate.

Straight up, banking calories is not a thing. You can't "save now, spend later" when it comes to calories and what you eat.

Here's what you should do instead:

1. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY.
You might be busy with kids, meetings etc, but it only takes a moment to check-in and see how you're feeling.

2. IF YOU'RE HUNGRY, E.A.T!!
This is not rocket science. What do you feel like eating at that moment? Honour your body's needs. It's here to support you for the long haul. Respect that.

3. YOU DESERVE TO EAT WHAT YOU ENJOY.
You don't have to bank calories or wait for a special occasion to eat the doughnut. If you want it, eat it and enjoy it. The doughnut does not mean you have "ruined" your eating or "failed". It's just a doughnut. Enjoy it for what it is and move the fu*k on.

There is never going to be a "right time" to deal with your emotional eating. There is just time and you choose what to do with it.

It won't be easier tomorrow.
It won't be easier next week.
And it definitely won't be easier next month.

I want to be clear, you can't (and won't) do it before you're ready. That's okay, too. But you will need to push yourself *a little*.

Want a life and body that feels easy and not stressy? You gotta step up, girl.

It's not going to feel good, but that's what growing and becoming an even more amazing wife/mother/partner/woman looks like!

STEP 1 - What are you willing to DO to make your relationship with food (or anything) the way you want it?

STEP 2 - What are you willing to STOP doing to have things the way you want it?

STEP 3 - How can you do what's necessary to get the job done AND enjoy the process? (and p.s. there are a million options here)

Remember, the feelings you get from eating when you're not hungry are only a temporary escape. Changing your relationship with yourself lasts a lifetime.

HOW TO TELL IF YOU REALLY ARE A USELESS FAILURE

How to tell if you really are a useless failure

And so here you are.

Again.

Elbow deep in chocolate and shaking your head in disbelief.

How did this happen?

You PROMISED yourself that you wouldn’t.

And after all the junk food you are last night, you really believed that you COULDN’T.

But you CAN.

And you DID.

You DID eat another packet of biscuits.

You DID eat more chocolate.

You DID eat until your stomach hurt and your eyes bulged and you wondered, desperately, will this ever end?

Will you EVER really feel in control around food?

And I don’t mean that fake kind of control you feel when you’re on a super restrictive diet.

No.

I mean REAL control.

The kind of control you feel when you’re living your sassiest, most powerful life and OF COURSE I don’t stick my fingers in the peanut butter jar and lick them clean… What am I? An animal?

Feeling out of control around food is something we ALL deal with from time to time.

It’s not crazy.

Heck, it’s not even uncommon.

How can I say this? Because the 83% of overweight or obese (that’s a blog for another day) Australians can’t be wrong.

Yes, that’s right; 83% of Aussies carrying extra weight on their body eat emotionally. But hey, you can throw around all the fancy statistics that you like, bottom line is, if you’re carrying extra weight on your booty, then you’re eating food when you’re not hungry which MEANS, 100% of overweight or obese (there’s that word again) Australians eat emotionally.

So what’s the solution?

Well, firstly… in the never-ending search for the perfect body, we seem to have lost sight of what “perfect” even means.

Google will tell you that Perfect means: as good as it is possible to be.

Yes, inconspicuously hidden underneath that it also says: completely free from faults or defects.

COMPLETELY FREE FROM FAULTS OR DEFECTS.

The only (and rather substantial) problem with this definition is that faults and defects are not actually a real “thing” but rather, they are a perceptual reflection of the person viewing them.

Which is EXACTLY why, as women, we can leave the house in the morning feeling like our Hot-O-Meter is off the charts, immediately see a new mum bouncing down the street in her designer sports gear with her perfect hair, perky booty and cellulite-free thighs and within 4.2 seconds, your Hot-O-Meter just went from smokin’ to barely smouldering and you’re stuffing down your first “pitty cupcake” all before 9am!

But…

What if what was perfect for you was what was perfect FOR YOU?

What if you DIDN’T measure yourself against other women, but rather, measured yourself against who you were yesterday?

What if you stopped trying to fix your FAULTS and instead, started appreciating your FABULOUS!

What would be possible then?

It’s not other women’s beauty that is the problem here.

We are a sisterhood. Here to love and support each other. Not tear each other down.

You don’t rise to the top of your beauty game by throwing cheap mascara at the woman next to you.

It’s our STRENGTH that makes us beautiful.

It’s our PASSION.

Our DRIVE.

Our fierce DETERMINATION and LOVE that allows us to soar.

And when we realise THAT, suddenly you’re not inferior at all.

You.

Are.

Beautiful.

Remember, you’ve got what it takes.

Love

Kylie
